James Schulz is an experienced freelance bass player and educator throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. As a performer, he has been contracted with the Santa Cruz Symphony, One Found Sound in San Francisco, and the Rogue Valley Symphony in Southern Oregon. He has performed with a variety of regional professional orchestras and ensembles such as the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Mendocino Music Festival, the Monterey Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Modesto Symphony, Stockton Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Symphony Silicon Valley, Bay Philharmonic (Fremont Symphony), and more.

James has over a decade of teaching experience with organizations such as La Honda Music Camp, Golden State Youth Orchestra, Las Positas College, JAMS Music in Dublin, the New World Music Academy in Pleasanton, various public schools, and many more. He has published an excercise book for double bass titled Double Bass: Excerises, Scales, and Reference, consisting of many of his favorite exercises to play and teach. James studied with Pat Klobas at CSU East Bay (BA 2010), and Steve Tramontozzi at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM 2013).
